1-Day Guide to Melbourne, Australia

No trip to Australia is complete without experiencing Melbourne, a vibrant city full of art and the worlds best coffee. Melbourne is an experience not to be missed while in Australia and was one of our favorites.

SOUTHBANK

Before starting your day in the Central Business District of Melbourne, find yourself across the Yarra river nearby the Arts Center to take in the skyline of the city. This is a beautiful photo spot also perfect for checking out the street performers on the bridge from afar before making your way across.

FEDERATION SQUARE

Across the bridge, you will come across interesting architecture where old style meets something more modern and abstract. Enjoy the view of St Paul’s Cathedral and take in the unique designs.

HOSIER LANE, STREET ART

Arguably the most important activity while in Melbourne is to admire its endless and creative laneway street art. Also check out Union Place, ACDC Lane, Caledonian Lane and Centre Place. You’re bound to be blown away and will want to take photographs at every turn.

COFFEE AT PATRICIA COFFEE BREWERS

Coffee is the most crucial part of your day when in Melbourne. We are self proclaimed coffee enthusiasts and Patricias is our favorite cafe in the entire world. We still haven't been to another coffee shop that tops this one. We were truly blown away. Down an inconspicuous alleyway Patricia Coffee Brewers oozes charm and the coffee is out of this world. We also had a gluten free chocolate peanut butter cookie that can't be missed. If you only do one thing in Melbourne, it has to be a visit to Patricias.

We also stopped at Seven Seeds Cafe for a morning coffee and had a great experience. We think you would be hard pressed to find a bad coffee shop in this city.

FLINDERS STREET STATION, CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT

An icon itself, the Flinders Street Station is one of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings. Its interesting architecture and central location make it an important stop during your day.

ROYAL ARCADE

A quintessential Australia experience, the Royal Arcade is the oldest surviving arcade in all of Australia. Full of boutiques and sunlight, the arcade is a beautiful stop during your day. We have been told that one of Melbourne's best chocolate cafes, Koko Black, is located here though we didn't have the opportunity to try.

DRINKS ON THE YARRA RIVER

A perfect way to end the night is overlooking the city of Melbourne alongside the Yarra River. Find a location with a great night view of the skyline.
