Timberland Fall Layering Advice

EXPERT ADVICE: INVEST IN A DOWN VEST
HERITAGE MEETS RUGGED STYLE

A down vest is an essential item for layering for winter, but this season, go for a stylish one. Gone are the days of a puffy athletic vest that makes you look like you’re about to go snowboarding.

The Bolton Mountain Down Vest comes in a subtle pattern with 100% Harris Tweed wool, a heritage fabric hand-woven in Scotland. Specially chosen for its quality and durability, Harris Tweed has been made for cold temperatures for centuries – and the historical pattern makes this piece classically rugged.

The vest is filled with 600-fill-power goose down, so when the temperature drops, this is the hero item that will keep out the chill.

For the coldest days, I like to wear this vest with several layers – once you break it down, layering is easy.

LAYERING TIPS

The main rule in layering is to go from your thinnest to the thickest piece of clothing. In this fall weekend casual look, I start off with a dark green corduroy shirt as my base layer. It’s comfortable and casual as my first layer.

Then, I layered with the Thames River Lambswool Sweater in navy. This sweater goes well with a pair of jeans in a light wash, like the Thompson Lake Slim Fit Selvage Denim.

Finally, I complete my look with the Bolton Mountain Down Vest. This two-toned gray and blue Harris Tweed vest adds pattern to my monochrome pieces. Harsh wind and freezing temperatures are also kept at bay with the thick vest.

WINTER BOOTS

For boots, I look for a classic look and a lot of quality. For this outfit, I love to match the Harris Tweed in my Britton Hill 6-Inch Lined Leather Boots with the vest. They stand out and are the perfect combination of style and comfort – and great for the guy that pays attention to details and wants a dressier option for the season (like me).

Throw on a pair of sunglasses and a casual strap watch for some added details.

This is a great casual look for the weekend to grab some coffee, go for brunch, or even head out for some apple picking.

CITY LOOKS

Pair these boots up with what you already have in your closet. For another classic look to go with these boots, I went with a leather jacket and blue jeans.

These boots also look great with cuffed denim  to really show them off. This outfit is perfect for a day of wandering around in the city to a night out hanging out with friends.

So layer up with a Harris Tweed vest, pick your classic winter boot for the season and be prepared to be stylish on brisk winter days.
